Alright is built to keep as little as possible. Your pets and your consults live on your iPhone. When you ask a question, what you send passes through our server to the AI that writes the answer, and isn't kept on our server afterwards.
In short
- Your pets' records and consults are stored on your iPhone, not on our servers.
- To answer a question, your message, attachments and your pet's profile go through our server to Anthropic's Claude. We don't store them.
- Our server keeps what it needs to run your account: an account ID, how many answers you've used, and your subscription status.
- No ads, no tracking across apps or websites, no selling data.
Who we are
Alright is developed by the developer named on Alright's App Store page, who is responsible for your information (the “controller”). Contact us at support@alright.pet.
What stays on your iPhone
Your pets' profiles, your consults (every message, photo and file, and each consult's summary), your notes, lost-pet details and poster, and your Pet pal game all live in Alright's storage on your iPhone. They aren't copied to our servers or to iCloud, so deleting the app deletes them. Your name and email address, if you signed in that way, are kept in your iPhone's Keychain, not on our servers. The Home Screen widget shows your pets' names and pixel sprites from the same phone.
What we need to run your account
When you sign in, our server creates an account with a random ID. It keeps:
- How you signed in. With Apple, the account number Apple gives us for Alright; Apple doesn't share your name with us unless you choose to, and even then it stays on your phone. With an email code, a scrambled form of your address (a keyed hash), never the address itself.
- Your privacy choice: which version of the AI-sharing notice you accepted, and when.
- Usage records: for each answer, when it was asked, a request ID, which AI model answered, how many tokens it used, our cost estimate, and a fingerprint (hash) of what was sent, so a retry isn't counted twice. They never include what you wrote or sent. They also count how many answers you've used today and this month.
- Your subscription, if you have one: the product, dates, whether it's a trial or introductory offer, and Apple's transaction IDs.
- Sign-in sessions: sessions are signed tokens that last up to 90 days; when you sign out, we note that the session is no longer valid until it would have expired.
When you ask a question
Alright asks before your first consult. To write an answer, the app sends this to our server, which is run on Cloudflare:
- the consult so far: your messages, and the photos, scans or PDFs you attach (photos are resized and re-encoded first, which strips hidden details such as where they were taken);
- the profile of the pet you're asking about: name, species, breed, age, weight, sex, history, medications, allergies, diet and your notes or corrections;
- short summaries of that pet's earlier consults, so answers can use their history;
- your iPhone's country, so an emergency answer can give the right animal poison line.
Our server checks it and passes it to Anthropic, whose Claude models write the answer and a two-line summary for your pet's timeline. With each consult we send Anthropic your account's random ID, but not your name or email address. Anthropic handles this under its commercial terms, which don't allow it to train its models on what we send; see Anthropic's privacy policy. The answer and summary come back to your iPhone. Our server doesn't keep what you sent or the answer.
Finding an emergency vet
Only when you tap to find vets, Alright asks for your location once, while you're using the app. The app rounds it to about 100 metres and sends that, with the time of day and your language, to our server, which searches Google Maps for open emergency vets nearby. The app may also search Apple Maps directly from your iPhone, with the same rounded location; how far away each clinic is gets worked out on your phone. Neither we nor the app store your location. Lost pet mode's search for shelters and vets uses Apple Maps the same way.
Sign-in emails
If you sign in with an email code, we send your address and the code to Resend, which delivers the email from signin@alright.pet. Codes are stored as a hash for up to 10 minutes and deleted once used.
Subscriptions
Apple takes payment; we never see your card. When you subscribe, the app gives Apple your account's random ID so the subscription can be matched to your account, and Apple's signed receipts and notifications tell our server your subscription's status.
Keeping Alright safe
To stop the vet search and sign-in emails being overused, our server counts requests in short time windows, per account, per internet (IP) address, or per scrambled email address. It keeps the counts, not what you searched. Our server's logs record events such as “answer completed” with the account's random ID, the model, token counts and timing, never your messages; Cloudflare keeps these logs for a limited time.
What we don't do
- No advertising, and no tracking you across other companies' apps or websites.
- No analytics or crash-reporting companies in the app.
- We don't sell or share your information for advertising.
Who handles your information for us
| Company | What for | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Runs our server and its storage | Everything that passes through our server, as described above |
| Anthropic | Writes answers and summaries | What you send in a consult, and your account's random ID |
| Emergency vet search | A location rounded to about 100 m, the time of day and language | |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, payments, Maps | What those services need; see Apple's privacy policy |
| Resend | Sends sign-in codes | Your email address and the code |
We only use companies that are bound by contract to protect your information at least as well as this policy does, and only for the jobs above. They may process it in the United States and other countries; where UK or EU law requires it, those transfers rely on recognised safeguards such as the standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep things
- On your iPhone: until you delete it, delete your account, or delete the app.
- Your account record (sign-in and privacy choice): until you delete your account.
- Usage records and subscription status: these contain no messages, photos or answers. They're kept while your account exists and deleted with it.
- Sign-in codes: up to 10 minutes. Logs: a limited time, set by Cloudflare.
Deleting your account
In Alright, open Settings and tap Delete account. Our server deletes your account record, how you signed in, your usage records, your subscription status and any pending sign-in code, and ends your sessions. The app then deletes your pets, consults and notes from your iPhone. If you used Sign in with Apple, you can also remove Alright from your Apple Account: on your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Sign-In & Security, then Sign in with Apple. Deleting your account doesn't cancel an Apple subscription; cancel that in your iPhone's Settings.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including the UK, the European Union and several U.S. states, you may have the right to ask for a copy of your information, to correct or delete it, to object to or restrict how it's used, and to withdraw your consent to sharing consults with the AI (you can simply stop sending them). Email support@alright.pet and we'll respond within the time the law requires. Because your consults are kept on your phone, you already hold most of your data. If you're in the UK or EU, you can also complain to your data protection authority, such as the ICO in the UK or the Data Protection Commission in Ireland.
Where UK or EU law applies, we use your information to provide the service you asked for, with your consent for sending consults to the AI, and for our legitimate interest in keeping Alright secure and working. Answers are written automatically by an AI, but they're information for you, not decisions about you with legal or similarly significant effects.
If you're in the United States
Some U.S. states, including California, give you rights over personal information. In the last 12 months, Alright has collected these categories, for the purposes and from the sources described above: identifiers (your account's random ID, a hashed email address, and an internet address used only for rate limits), commercial information (your subscription), approximate location (not stored), and the content of your consults (not stored on our servers). We don't sell or share personal information for advertising, and we don't use sensitive information to infer things about you. You can ask to know, correct or delete your information by emailing us, and we won't treat you differently for doing so.
Children
Alright is for adults caring for animals and isn't directed at children. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change how Alright handles information, we'll update this page, change the date at the top, and, for important changes, tell you in the app before they take effect.
